Pros:

  • Good amount of variation to help find the specific version fitted to the user’s needs. Company has not had any major controversies.

Cons:

  • Fairly expensive for what’s offered, most of it is easily replaced and readily available in things like yogurt. Poor probiotic diversity.

Bacteria Strains

They do offer a lot of different strains and their basic blend has 3.4 billion cultures at the time of production. This is a lot of possible support, assuming most of it is still usable by the time it reaches the consumer. The only problem with their quality of bacteria is that most of it is found naturally in fermented foods and yogurt.

They do not add anything else that what’s commonly seen in a basic brand of yogurt. They do add slight changes to each strain as they have reformulated versions meant to last, but it’s still likely active in a container of yogurt that’s not spoiled.

It would have been preferable had they included a lot more support from different bacteria which weren’t as commonly used.

We would have also preferred had they added more than only 6 strains of bacteria to their basic formula. This is clearly lacking when you compare it to other brands which have a lot more added to it.

Business

Jarrow Formulas, Inc. makes these supplements and they are based out of Los Angeles. The company has been around since 1977, and they offer their products in many stores.

They have not been rated by the Better Business Bureau at this time. The company sends a document challenging the FDA about the lack of science regarding their probiotics. They believed they had good enough science to show the value of the probiotics they were selling. Since this was published in 2017, it appears it’s still ongoing as no other word has come out of this case.

The company has direct sales offered on their website, and they offer returns but only when the product is returned. They fail to add more information about their returns process, so it’s unknown for how long this policy is offered for. This may require talking to the company to understand what kinds of returns are possible.

Consumer Reviews

The best way to know if a probiotic is likely to work is by examining all the available user reviews. There were a lot of people who tried this and depending on the specific purpose, some did find it useful for things like digestion improvement, which makes sense as they use common forms of bacteria which are often found in foods.

There was some criticism which came mostly from those who saw no benefits at all, even after taking a full bottle. Some had increased constipation and digestive issues, but overall most said it just didn’t work. Even with regular use some complained that they saw no improvement of any kind. It’s sometimes the case that with probiotics which aren’t properly kept, there may be a dip in overall effectiveness. We can’t say for certain however, as many factors can change the quality.

Conclusion:

Jarrow Probiotics makes many different types of probiotics for supported coverage, which allows for specialized use.

Even though they do make it easy to cater to each person’s needs, the price is too high for what’s offered. There are fairly common forms of bacteria that you’d be able to easily replace elsewhere.
